Microsoft and Xbox LIVE must have had a family disagreement as Microsoft has discontinued the much-loved Gold Family Pack it offered to customers. Joystiq got in touch with a Microsoft representative to confirm that the Family Gold is no longer able to be purchased.
“The Family Gold offer is no longer available for purchase,”… “The Family Center experience with settings management, allowance granting, child activity reports and family subscriptions management are still available for current Family Gold members at this time.
As for why the pack was discontinued, the rep said, “We continually evaluate our business focus and work to offer services that make the most sense for our customers and Xbox.”
The Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack gave you four 12-month Gold memberships for less than the price of two. Microsoft even gave you a discount on your Gold Family Pack membership if you had time remaining on your existing Gold membership.
Microsoft are yet to pull certain information from the Xbox SUPPORT side on Xbox.com which still gives information on how to convert to A Gold Family Pack.
The ending of the Family Gold has come without any prior warning and only found out when existing users came to renew their subscription but instead were greeted with an error.
The reason behind the removal of this subscription is unknown and might be something to do with the new Xbox 720 but the earliest we will find anything out is around April when Microsoft hopefully give us a reveal. unfortunately for the rest of us there is nothing for us to do but buy separate Gold subscriptions for our remaining accounts, and as for the Family Center that Microsoft had provided us with..its still available to Gold Family pack subscribers but after…..who knows what going to happen with that?
